Abstract: Two drought-resistant genes (PeDREB2a and HhERF2) were identified through functional analysis of the four transcriptional factor genes cloned from Populus euphraticaand Halimodendron halodendron, respectively. PeDREB2a and HhERF2 were two factors which had positive effects in plants against drought stress. Based on this, a series of plant expression vectors either harboring PeDREB2a or HhERF2 were constructed with a non-resistant marker gene and transferred into the Lotus genome using an Agrobacterium mediated method. Transgenic Lotus had strong tolerance to drought. This showed that transcription factors significantly improved drought resistance of L. corniculatus, and the survival rate of transgenic L. corniculatus was 100% in a drought recovery water test.
