Abstract: Soil compaction problems resulted from 1-10 passes of a HW320 mowing machine along the same track in field tests. The correlations between soil bulk density, soil hardness and alfalfa (Medicago sativa) yield were analyzed. Soil bulk density and soil hardness in different depths were increased because of alfalfa soil compaction and the soil bulk density was directly proportional to lg N of the number of compaction times. Alfalfa yield was reduced because of soil compaction. There were negative correlations between soil bulk density and alfalfa yield, which can be represented by quadratic equations. Soil hardness was also negatively correlated with alfalfa yield, the correlation of soil hardness at 0 to 20 cm soil depth with alfalfa yield is high and can be represented by quadratic equations.
